NT: NT holiday road toll rises to two

21 Dec 2008 3:48 AM

DARWIN, Dec 21 AAP - The Northern Territory's holiday road toll has risen to two with the death of a pedestrian on the Stuart Highway at Knuckeys Lagoon.

Police say the woman was crossing the Stuart Highway when she apparently walked into the path of a removalist truck on the corner of Lagoon Road at about 11:45am on Saturday.

One of the lanes of the Stuart Highway was blocked for over two hours while rescue crews attended and crash investigators examined the scene.

Police say the 34-year-old male driver was breath tested and returned a zero reading, and it does not appear that excessive speed was a factor in the crash.

The death takes the national holiday road toll to seven.
